Background and Problem

I partnered with Cloud for Good—a Salesforce implementation partner, to improve the customer experience for MIT SLOAN Executive Education.

Through user interviews and competitive analysis, we identified the primary pain points experienced by users: the enrollment process was inefficient and time-consuming, as users were required to create an account or log in before adding courses to their shopping cart. Additionally, users struggled to keep track of the courses necessary to fulfill specific certificates.

Solution

I made several user experience (UX) enhancements, including:

  • Introducing an advanced course finder that enabled users to search for courses by certificate type, format, duration, credits, dates, and topics. The search results were presented in both list and calendar views, and color-coded to indicate if a course fulfilled the user’s intended certificate.
  • Optimizing the course information page, featuring a sticky CTA bar that allowed for easy course addition to the shopping cart without any scrolling. The page was organized using tabs and a testimonial carousel to keep page length short, uncluttered, and easy to browse.
  • Designing a certificate tracker and planner with an overall progress bar and course requirement progress counters to help users track their progress towards a certificate. Users were also able to plan certificate courses with an easy drag-and-drop feature.
  • Streamlining the enrollment process to enable users to create a profile, check out, add discount codes, pay, and receive a purchase receipt quickly.
  • Simplifying the subscription process by implementing a brief contact form with only three fields.

All these enhancements were designed to maintain design consistency with the rest of the MIT Sloan website’s branding guidelines and UI.

Carolina works equally well with technical and non-technical people and does an excellent job taking on a wide range of requirements and bringing them to life. She has been invaluable to our developer team in thinking though the UX/UI of our projects. She is great working with clients and gets them so excited for the work to come.
